You are a Christian but you know there's got to be more to the Christian life than what you are living. Some people seem to have something extra that you just don't know how to get. You question your salvation. You question God. What do those Christians have that you don’t have? How can some Christians really live in joy when things don’t go their way? If you really want more to life, then this program is for you!

The answer can be summed up in one word: Relationship

When we say relationship, we are saying to spend time with God to learn His character and communicate with Him. I'm not just going to tell you to read your Bible and pray. Yes, definitely do these things! But let's also look at some specific things that also help build that relationship!

What is something that you really love? Is it a sport? Is it a sports team? Is it chocolate? Is it cars? Motorcycles? Your spouse? Your pet? Your children? Your job? Reading? Movies? How do you know that you love that thing or person? You learn about it, right? You spend time becoming an expert. You know the stats of the game. You wear the team colors. If you like cooking, you know about pots, ovens, ingredients, etc. If you love your pet, you know how it acts when he's sick or happy. You understand his bark. If it is a person, you know their likes and dislikes.


1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

Philippians 4:4-7 "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

These two scriptures actually carry on to tell us one more thing and that is our "thoughts"

1 Thessalonians 5:21 says "…Hold on to the good."

Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things." Verse 9 – "…And the God of peace will be with you."

Four things we’ve learned:
  1. Be joyful
  2. Pray continually
  3. Give thanks
  4. Good thoughts

Some Biblical expressions in communicating with God

Psalm 28:7 "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to Him in song."

Psalm 98:4 "Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music"

Psalm 95:1-2 "Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song."

Psalm 95:6 "Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care."

This is how you build a relationship with God. It’s the difference between those who build a relationship with God and those who just go through the motions of going to church or those who empty mindedly say they are Christians. This wasn’t just for the people of the Bible or the pastors of our churches. This is for everyone! Have you ever breathed in God's Spirit? Have you ever had those moments of complete satisfaction with Him? If not, I'm not here to chastise you. I’m here to tell you you’re missing out. You will never have peace if you don’t learn this! Never!

If you think you are too busy to stop to spend time with God, then you haven’t given Him your schedule. I learned long ago that if I miss my time with Him, then I didn’t listen to Him at some point in the day, because it is always His will for us to spend time with Him daily. Not just rattling off a "I want" list and "will You do this" list of requests, even though He does say bring everything to Him in prayer! It's soaking in His presence and telling Him what He means to you and thanking Him for the good things.

You will be living the greatest commandment.

The greatest commandment: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." Matthew 22:37
