Are you tired all the time? Do you often have more than one place to be in a given moment? Do you often think it would be nice to push a pause button to freeze the world so you can catch up on your many activities and then resume play? Do you find yourself having a negative attitude when fulfilling certain obligations? Do you find yourself saying yes to almost everyone who asks you to do something? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this program is just for you! Let’s learn how to be free from the bondage of being too busy! Only then can we live the fulfilled life God has planned for us!

  1. To have others like us. (Well, if the person asking is not going to like you because you say no, then they are not a friend worth having.)
  2. To feel good about ourselves.
  3. To try to earn our salvation. (We can never earn our salvation. God says salvation is a gift from Him, not by works.

Ephesians 2:8-9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast."
  4. To impress others. (We want to tell the world that we are successful through looking or being busy.)

Are you ready to be free? Let's look at:

  1. Realize that God is not pleased with our pursuit to be busy all the time. He is pleased when we are actively doing His will.
  2. Realize that God is not pleased with our pursuit to be busy all the time. He is pleased when we are actively doing His will.
  3. Don't agree to do something because you want to please the person who asked you. Who are you living for, man or God?

Galatians 1:10 "Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ."

My stories of being too busy. My story of pleasing people, even ministers. There are a few. The big self discovery lesson was when I was supposed to run the control room for the video ministry at our church and I also had a special singing obligation at the same time within my church. I was literally supposed to be in two places at once. It hit me, God would never ask me to do that. Somewhere along the way, I didn't listen.
  4. Don't fill a vacancy position just because no one else will do it.

If a program can't get enough people to help, then maybe it's time for that program to cease for a season. God may have another program or area of the church/group to work in. Churches are not in competition with each other. We're on the same team. It's not a "win" when every church chooses to go into the community to find the lost souls an bring them in. I want every Christian church to be busting at the seams with members! We'll never do that with wrong motives and wearing down our members.
  5. Check your attitude - When people are not in God's will, but are simply filling a position, they get crabby.
  6. Don't think you have to be busy doing something every minute of every day. Our world tells us that being busy means we are successful. But we are to not be conformed to this world.

Romans 12:2 "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will."

Luke 10:38-42 / v41-42  "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
  7. Seek God's direction – Jesus went off alone to pray to God. God wants us to know His will. He is our Lord who lovingly guides us through life. Don't use it as an excuse to not do anything. "I served my time." As long as we are living, we are to serve God. The difference is serving God, not man or self. Find out what your Spiritual gifts are and use them. (Romans 12:4-8, 1 Corinthians 12:4-31) Stay open to serve in activities that you never even thought you could or would do.

Pick 2 things and do them well!

Ephesians 6:7 "Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men."

And live in the freedom to serve God and not man by doing HIS will and making the wiser choice of scheduling time with Him.
