Most people dream of wedding bliss with an adoring spouse, a perfect household, and stress free home living! As they say on ESPN… “Come on, Man!” What are we living in, Utopia?

Ah, idealistic thinkers like me still hang on to the hope and optimism of such bliss and are determined to find ways to make this the best life possible in all areas. So, here we have a wonderful show about “Your Dream Marriage, Part 1.” CH MAJ David R. Schlichter, a marriage counselor in the US Army, joins Sharon to discuss marriage, challenges to the dream and ways to improve married life. Time quickly passed when recording this program and we still had many more ways to offer help to families, so stay tuned for Part 2!

What is the dream?

  • To be loved and accepted for who we are
  • To live “happily ever after” with our spouse.

Challenges to the Dream

  • Learning how "to become one"
  • Don’t know how to FORGIVE
  • Separation
  • Learning and filling each others needs
  • Don’t know what they want
  • Outside pressures

Learning how to become one:

Matthew 19: 4-6  NIV

Jesus Speaking 4 "Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,’ 5 and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? 6 So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

What is Love?

1 Corinthians 13:1-8a NIV

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails

Matthew 6:14  NIV

“For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you."

Matthew 6:15  NIV

"But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."

God’s Example

Jeremiah 31:34 NIV

"For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."

Jeremiah 33:8 NIV

"I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me."

God Forgives

Micah 7:18  NIV

"Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy."

Psalm 145:8-9

The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich (abounding Psalm 103:8) in love. The Lord is good to all; He has compassion on all He has made.
